Know someone who'd love this field? Bring them to meet it โ
Make a day of it
The meadow doesn't end at the hedge. Around it stands a whole village that has stood with her for a thousand years โ the church on the hill, the hall where they dance, the swings where they squeal. Go on, make a day of it. The field will still be here when you get back. She's very patient.

Church
Church of the Ascension โ the Tin Church
Corrugated iron, a spire and a bell โ one of the only tin tabernacles still in worship, Grade II listed and a sister of St Lawrence's. The village keeps her coffee mornings toasty. And Pope Adrian IV was born just up the road โ a fact the fly has never let us forget.
Beside the primary school โ a play tower, a zip wire and a basket swing. Legs worn out before the drive home.
“Look after each other out here. Come in twos and threes, bring a torch if you're about after dark, and keep an eye on the little ones and the slow ones. I'd watch over you myself, but I'm a scarecrow โ my watching's mostly for the crows. So you be each other's guardians. That's the village way.”
